Do not push yourself or your kids too hard! The most important thing is that one should enjoy life and by the time he/she is 70 years old, he/she looked back and can confortably say, I enjoyed my life!
I have been through many good places, and also many small places... I grauduated from Peking Univ Med school and came to US after graduation... I got a PhD degree here at a second tier school and went to a toppest place to do Post-doc, and then down to a small place to get my internship training in clinical medicine, then went to a middle class place to finish my residency, then an upper middle place to complete my fellowship and now I am a faculty member at Harvard Univ Med school, who claims the toppest one.. However, I have to say, my happiest life and my most-valuable life were achieved during my internship and my fellowship... These two places are not the toppest ones, but the mentors are the best and they influenced me and changed my life dramatically. I used to think about being an oncologist, but now I am a pulmnologist and intensivist... Those steps in one's life, no matter happened in a famous place or in a unknown place, they are your own experience, they are the most valuable part... My first post-doc place, is the one I hate most.. totally a waste of life and time...fortunately, I clearly realized that and I quitted after one month...people can not understand why I gave up such a famous place...but i looked back now, i am so lucky that I made a wonderful decision that time! so one will never know which step is the most valuable during your life. The GOD's arrangement is the most suitable one for you, even you may feel bad at that time, but years later, you will realize what you have is the best~!
